HbA1C blood test using Nycocard Reader
Table of Contents
HbA1c refers to glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) which shows average plasma glucose concentration. It develops when hemoglobin, a protein within red blood cells (RBCs) that carries oxygen throughout the body, attaches to glucose in the blood, becoming ‘glycated’. By testing HbA1c, clinicians (doctors) are able to get an overall idea of what the average blood glucose level has been over a period of 2/3 months. Diabetic people with higher HbA1c are at a greater risk of developing diabetes-related complications like heart disease, kidney disease, and nerve damage and thus it is mandatory for diabetic control for healthy and longer life.
