SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Laboratory Proficiency Testing Assessment: Introduction, Report Format and Possible Reasons for Discordant

Introduction

Private or satellite COVID Molecular Laboratories are supervised under national or Sentinel Clinical
Laboratory of the country. The quality of those laboratories is assayed following proficiency testing assessment. In this assessment, a few positive and a few negative specimens are requested and retested in the sentinel laboratory. The output of the test results is compared. If the result is concordant, there is nothing to do otherwise improvement is mandatory.

Possible Reasons for Discordant

The discordant result may occur due to

  • Sample storage condition
  • Technical error
  • Interpretation error
  • Transcription error
