Table: A list of hospitals performing USG in Kathmandu
Uses of USG
It is used in the following conditions-
- Medical observation of a developing fetus during pregnancy
- Internal viewing of organs that are exhibiting pain, swelling, or other symptoms like bladder, eyes,
gallbladder, brain (in infants), liver, kidneys, ovaries, spleen, pancreas, thyroid, uterus, testicles and
blood vessels.
Keynotes on USG
- Before an ultrasound scan, the patient/client may have to fast for 8 to 12 hours, especially if the abdomen is being examined since undigested food can block the sound waves, causing it difficult for the sonologist to get clear footage/picture.
- Generally prior to sonography/USG, drinking a lot of water is suggested, and also advised to hold urine so that bladder is full and better visualized.
- In the case of gallbladder, liver, pancreas, or spleen sonography, the patient/client is told not to eat a fat meal the evening before the USG scan and then to fast until the procedure.
- Rather than X-rays or CT scans, an ultrasound scan is a preferred technique for examining a developing fetus during pregnancy due to lacking radiation.
- Special ultrasonography scans are doppler, small parts USG, breast USG, thyroid USG and testis USG.
